Symbolism

I used to think of life as one giant iPhone. On this phone you use your social media apps, text messages, and safari. Then you have unnecessary apps such as notes, camera, and voice memos. The social media apps are great it's just if you use too much of it, it can become toxic. Just like friends! It's great to have friends, but sometimes you need a break from them to recover and find yourself. The unnecessary items such as voice memos are just things you don't need it your life. They're nice to have but you don't need to wrap yourselves up worrying about them. You could put them to the side for a rainy day. Symbolic object: Iphone

Short Story

We used to be best friends. You came into my life and told me you would stay. You did not stay. We learned each other secrets, fears, and goals. Our parents met each other and became friends. We planned to go to high school and college together. We thought we had it all planned out. Until one day, I got a phone call saying you were moving to Atlanta at the end of the school year. What happened happen to the promises of being friends forever. Guess forever was pretty short huh? All the phone calls and mailed letters to each other’s houses stopped eventually. I still reminisce on our bond. I wonder if he misses me as much as I miss him.

Hurricane Katrina

    In 2005, I was barely starting kindergarten. I don't remember much, but my mom tells me stories of how Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst storms to ever hit Louisiana. I do remember being with my entire family in a three bedroom house all sitting around saying prayers and asking God for help in our time of need. At the time, I thought our situation was terrible. A tree had fell over and nearly collapsed on the house and the weather outside was horrific. I did not think it could get any worse. It wasn't until a  couple of years ago, when I watched videos and read about how it was completely different on the other side of the state. I especially did not know it caused that much emotional damage until I read excerpts of " New Orleans After the Deluge"  by Josh Neufield.       This graphic novel was very descriptive of how normal life was hours before the storm hit.
