Strengths and weaknesses

This year, I have learned a lot about my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. Sometimes writing can either be very fun or very challenging for me. One of my strengths and being able to cite and quote properly. It took me a while to catch on, but now I know enough to help someone else. I'm still working on good traits but I have gotten better, Lastly I've mastered being able to expand my vocabulary and grammar in my writing. I've learned where to put certain words and where to start to check for grammar issues.    One of my main weaknesses would have to be understanding rhetoric situation. Sometimes I forget that if I am assigned to certain audience, that my word choice should reflect upon that. Another weakness I have  is forgetting to read over my work. Sometimes I type so fast that I slip up. My biggest issue that I have grown from but still have trouble with is writing how you talk. Especially with formal papers. I tend to slip up with that too.

Hits and misses

This year has been quite a rollercoaster for me when it comes to English. There were some pieces of writing that I really enjoyed and there were some pieces that I absolutely hated. Most of them I did not like though. First I want to talk about the pieces of writings I enjoyed. I enjoyed writing my research paper on Marie Antoinette. I always loved hearing about her "scandalous life". Even it especially fun to write about everything I learned about her. I felt successful with this piece because I actually enjoyed my topic. The topic grew on me more and more as the deadline drew closer.    I absolutely could not stand writing my personal narrative nor the literary analysis. I've learned fro this year that it is harder for me to become engaged in topics I am not interested in. With my personal narrative, I did not put my all into it. I felt like since I had told the story of my hose being flooded so many times that it was boring. I also did not like the book we did t

Purple Hibiscus ***SPOILER ALERT***

Purple Hibiscus is a very tough book to read sometimes. It's one of those books that tugs at your heart. The children and the mother go through so much abuse that you wish you could just call out to Jaja and Kambili and send them the help they deserve. When Papa poured boiling water on his children's feet, it made me upset that there are actual children in the world today who are stuck in homes where there is domestic abuse. Even though it is just a book, it sickens me that no one else in the book cares to turn Papa in for the physical and emotional damage he is causing for them. I'm aware that people abuse others and get away with it because of who they are and maybe that's why I get so upset reading this.      I especially feel terrible for Mama. She has lost her baby twice to Papa beating her and I can only imagine what women who are married to abusers feel. The first time he beat her with her bare hands and dragged her across the floor. The second time, he th

Prompts from List

#145    I feel as a girl, there is too much pressure to have perfect bodies. There are manny different reasons why girls feel their bodies are ineligible for love and appreciation. The world we live in throws us subtle hints at to how they think our bodies should look. For so long, Barbie dolls were only one shape. Skinny girls with tiny waists. There was such a lack of diversity that it caused me too look at dolls differently. If you ever follow Victoria Secret or social media models you soon notice they advertise the same size models or the same color models. The society we live in has transfigured the minds of young girls and women no matter the age to try to fit into what the world calls "beautiful". As a growing young woman, I cannot simply blame this all on guys who are attracted to solely these body types. I blame the women who tear down others for not looking the same as them.    Growing up, I never really enjoyed the way I looked. I had a huge gap in my teeth, a

Police Brutality: Stephen Clark autopsy

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/30/us/stephon-clark-independent-autopsy.html       Frances Robles and Jose Del. A Real created an article on the New York Times page telling an audience some of the reasons of why Stephon Clark was shot eight times in his during a police raid. the two authors start off with stating the police's version of the story. The police stated they felt Clark had a firearm in his hand, which caused them to advance with eight shots that somehow landed in his back and torso. The family of Stephon Clark hired someone to do an independent autopsy which led to several questions from the community. Questions arose such as "How could Clark have been a threat if he was shot in the back? Wouldn't that mean that his back was turned in a prey stance instead of predatory stance? "The police department then came back with the response of Clark was turning around which led to the shots that landed in his back. This back and forth debate of who was wrong
