Poem


Why must we tear down others?

Why must be rude to those different than us?

Why must we bend rules that are not meant to be broken?

Why can't we appreciate those who do their best to please us daily

Why can't society accept that we are all different?

I myself am still

learning.

Maybe my experiences can teach

others.

Maybe I can learn from

others.

Maybe, just

maybe.

 Two weeks ago, I became a freshman!  I talked about it being scary at one time, but now it is a breeze. The teachers help me get through the hiccups and my upperclassmen friends are a great influence on what and what not to do. They help take away most of my anxiety.   What mostly made my last couple weeks great is that I've noticed I have been making my mom proud when I come home and immediately start doing my work. After the flood, my parents were thinking it would be my last year because of financial binds. Even though they struggled, I watched them give their last to put me back at EHS for the start of my high school career. Purple Hibiscus ***SPOILER ALERT***

  Purple Hibiscus is a very tough book to read sometimes. It's one of those books that tugs at your heart. The children and the mother go through so much abuse that you wish you could just call out to Jaja and Kambili and send them the help they deserve. When Papa poured boiling water on his children's feet, it made me upset that there are actual children in the world today who are stuck in homes where there is domestic abuse. Even though it is just a book, it sickens me that no one else in the book cares to turn Papa in for the physical and emotional damage he is causing for them. I'm aware that people abuse others and get away with it because of who they are and maybe that's why I get so upset reading this.      I especially feel terrible for Mama. She has lost her baby twice to Papa beating her and I can only imagine what women who are married to abusers feel. The first time he beat her with her bare hands and dragged her across the floor. We used to be best friends. You came into my life and told me you would stay. You did not stay. We learned each other secrets, fears, and goals. Our parents met each other and became friends. We planned to go to high school and college together. We thought we had it all planned out. Until one day, I got a phone call saying you were moving to Atlanta at the end of the school year. What happened happen to the promises of being friends forever. Guess forever was pretty short huh? All the phone calls and mailed letters to each other’s houses stopped eventually. I still reminisce on our bond. I wonder if he misses me as much as I miss him.
